We were asked to light the home of an artist and a collector. The brief was to design a flexible lighting scheme, which gave the client control of the system throughout their apartment. Our challenge was not just to create lighting for their home but also to use it to display their collection.
The project uses a combination of low voltage adjustable downlighters, track fittings and linear LED systems. The downlighters, which provide the majority of the lighting, are used to focus on paintings and sculptures around the room, they also provide general lighting for the space. The track system provides the flexibility required for lighting art in the main display area.
Colour changing was an important requirement for this project so we used a combination of linear RGB LED strip and flex systems.
The lighting design is controlled with a preset dimming system and a touch screen to alter the scenes.
The client now has the ability to change the space to suit their needs whether that is the display of their art, relaxing in the evening or even using the colour changing systems to create that “party” atmosphere.
